About

Beverly McWilliams

Beverly McWilliams is a multidisciplinary artist whose creative life began not with a brush, but with music and teaching. A distinguished music educator, she was honored as a 2000 Kansas Teacher of the Year Finalist for her work at Towanda Elementary in Circle USD 375, where she became known for her ability to touch the heart through both teaching and original musical compositions.

Her interest in visual art began early while creating bulletin boards and classroom displays for her teachers. That interest was later encouraged at Circle High School under the mentorship of Vernon Brejcha, whose guidance provided an important artistic foundation.

Today, Beverly works primarily in watercolor and oils, with a current focus on Tonalism. Through simplified forms, restrained palettes, and atmospheric light, she creates landscapes that emphasize mood, memory, and emotional presence over literal representation. Her paintings invite quiet reflection and seek to capture the feeling of a place rather than its exact detail.

Beverly has continued her artistic studies with artists Kandy Tate and Sherry Waters, and studied watercolor with Gerald Peterson. She also served as a Docent in Training at the Wichita Art Museum, deepening her appreciation for both historical and contemporary art traditions.

Her commitment to the arts is closely tied to her commitment to community. Beverly served as President of the Board of Directors for Flinthills Services, Inc., and alongside Kathy Walter, co-founded the Flinthills Rock N' Rollers, a community choir for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She also remains an active volunteer with the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in El Dorado, Kansas.

Her work has been exhibited throughout Kansas and Oklahoma, including Wichita, El Dorado, Edmond, and Park Hill, Oklahoma. Paintings by Bev are held in private collections throughout the Midwest as well as internationally in France, Germany, Brazil, and South Africa.
