I have spent my life going out there.
For thirty years as a music educator, I brought art into places and lives where it had never been — composing original works, leading performances at the Kansas State Capitol, on television, and in schools and communities across the region. Honored as a 2000 Kansas Teacher of the Year Finalist, I built a career on the belief that art is not a privilege. It belongs to everyone.
Now I paint.
The series Ascending Light is what happens when a lifetime of giving joy turns inward and finds its own voice. These paintings don’t announce themselves. They breathe. They wait. They invite the viewer into silence rather than spectacle — because I have learned that the quietest moments carry the most.
I paint in oils from two studios — one overlooking Lake Tenkiller in Oklahoma, where morning fog teaches me daily what atmosphere can do, and one in Benton, Kansas, near the Flint Hills, where the vast sky reminds me that less is always more.
I am still out there. Just differently now.
Peace. Love. Kindness. Hope.
